Why Amaris? Because Amaris is the most avant garde laser worldwide combining all the available modern technology in one system. It is the only 7th generation laser existing in the market.

Why a 7th generation laser makes the difference to the patient? Because a 7th generation laser is the state of the art technology. Its most important characteristics are: high frequency of the eye tracker and the laser shots, the beam profile, the dynamically adapted distribution of the laser pulses, the two different energy levels (fluence) during the treatment and the balancing mechanism for the static and the dynamic eye movements. All these features, including intra-operative pachymetry, ensure safety, reduced treatment time and predictability of the results. Its software, designed for customized treatments, allows the ophthalmologist to choose the best option in order to fulfill each patient’s needs and expectations.

Which is the outstanding feature of the Amaris? It embodies all the outstanding contemporary technology. It is equipped with a high frequency laser beam and the fastest eye tracker currently available(1050 MHz).The standard treatment is always aspheric, resulting in less spherical aberrations, meaning better quality of vision.

Why the frequency of the laser is so important? The 500 Hz repetition rate and the improved spot overlap guarantee reduced treatment time, minimized thermal load on the cornea, less induced aberrations and therefore BETTER VISION QUALITY post-operatively.

What is the importance of the eye tracker, its frequency and how is related to the laser and the treatment?Eye tracker has to track and balance as many eye movements as possible in order for the laser spots to hit the cornea always on the desired area. To avoid a slack in the spot position the eye tracking system should be twice as faster as the repetition of the laser and this requirement is totally fulfilled by the Amaris. This feature ensures safety and predictability of the results.

How the eye tracker balances the movement of the eye and in which directions? In nature there are only 3 dimensions X,Y,Z. Since the eye does not move along an axis, but rotates around an eyeball rotational centre, the 1st and 2nd dimensions are recalculated in order to avoid the slack between the detected position of the pupil and the real point on the cornea surface. These are called the 3rd and 4th dimensions. It also takes into account the torsion of the eye around the optical axis which is the 5th dimension.

Why does the Amaris use a high fluence level (HF ) and a low fluence level (LF)? The HF is to speed up the treatment thus minimize the ablation time and the LF is to ensure the highest accuracy, precision and the smoothest ablation surface.

Which are the particular characteristics of the beam profile? The beam of the Amaris is called “Super-Gaussian” and it combines the advantages of a flat top and a truncated Gaussian profile without compromise. This beam profile ensures minimal thermal load on the cornea, very smooth surfaces and is preserves more corneal tissue than other lasers.

How is Amaris evaluated on the safety of refractive procedures? Before the official launch of the Amaris, clinical trials in 6 clinics around the world (one of them is Emmetropia) proved the high safety level of the device and its reliability.
